DIY Valentine's Day

wine cork heart

My fondest memories of Valentine's Day was when I was in Elementary School. Each child would make their own little paper mailbox a few days fore Valentine's Day. The class room was always left with scraps of red & pink paper, glitter, cut paper doilies and dribbles of Elmer's Glue left on the desks and floor. On Valentine's Day each classmate would pass out their store bought Valentine cards with their chosen piece of candy to each classmate's paper mailbox. I would always hope the boy I had a crush on would write a special message in mine like, "I like you" or "you are pretty" (oh, so daring).
I'm a little late again, but I didn't want this holiday to go by without sharing my favorite 5 DIY Valentine ideas from around the web.

Pom Pom Garland
This Pom Pom Garland is too cute for words. The perfect little hint of color for the home.

Heart Pillow
I NEED this Red Heart Pillow. Now that I have a sewing machine I don't have any excuses.

Heart Cookies
I love the little heart candies you can get during Valentine's with messages. I've never loved the taste of them however, so these Conversation Cookie Hearts
are a great alternative.
Hope you have a very special Valentine's Day!!

Braided Bracelet

I'm a sucker for texture. I made a couple of knitted bracelets a few years back but found you can get a similar effect with braiding. Here is what you need.

1. Yarn
2. Bracelet
3. Hot Glue
4. Scissors

Take three pieces of yarn and tie them at the top. You'll need three sets of these. The strands need to be several inches long (90+ inches). Tie the three sets of three together at the top.

Braid the three sets together.

Tie the end off so that it doesn't unravel. My braid was 95 inches long when I was done.
Put a little hot glue in the middle of your bracelet

Press the braid just under the knot into the hot glue to secure it to the bracelet.

Cut the knot off when it is properly secured.

Wrap the braid around the bracelet close together
so that you don't see the bracelet between the braid.

Continue wrapping the braid around the bracelet until you end back up at your starting point.
Glue the end down and cut off the excess braid.

Now you've got a great little textured accessory.

Would also look great with adding a stripe of another color.

Happy Making!
